Investment ISAs
ISAs have always been popular savings/investment vehicles due to their flexibility and favourable tax status. You can currently invest up to £7,200 each year in Individual Savings Accounts, tax free. And with no capital gains tax to pay, it's a smart way to invest.
We employ the services of some of the world's best investment managers including Artemis, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs and Schroders, so you can be sure your investment ISA is in safe hands.
Our Barclays Financial planning Managers can meet you at a time and place to suit; even your own home. They'll discuss your current financial circumstances and future needs, and produce a tailored financial plan to help you decide which ISA is best suited to you.
ISA and PEP key changes (from 6th April 2008):
Revised government legislation came into force on 6th April 2008, providing more opportunities to increase sums invested and consolidate investments. The aim was to simplify previous rules and provide flexibility for investors.
Key changes:
- PEPs ceased to exist; All PEPs have automatically become Stocks & Shares ISAs and are subject to ISA rules and regulations, i.e. In line with existing rules, any interest earned on uninvested cash held in the Stocks & Shares ISA account will be subject to a 20% flat rate deduction by HM Revenue & Customs.
- The maximum investment allowance into a Stocks and Shares ISA is £7,200.
- Up to £3,600 of the annual ISA allowance can be invested in a Cash ISA with the balance in a Stocks and Shares ISA.
- If you are aged over 50, the maximum investment allowance for the 2009/10 tax year has been increased to £10,200, of which up to £5,100 can be invested in a Cash ISA.
- The distinction between Maxi and Mini ISAs has been removed. Under the new rules (from 6th April 2008), only two types of ISA products are available: Cash ISAs and Stocks & Shares ISAs.
- The ability to transfer some or all cash saved in previous tax years in a Cash ISA through another provider to a Stocks & Shares ISA without affecting your annual ISA investment allowance. Investors are not permitted to transfer Stocks and Shares ISAs to Cash ISAs.
Benefits:
- One of the significant benefits (regarding the 6th April 2008 changes) is that you are able to consolidate any existing ISA investments, including Cash ISAs and Tessa Only ISAs (TOISA), held with other providers via an ISA transfer.
- Keeping all ISA investments under one provider will give you the opportunity to manage your accounts more easily and potentially reduce the fees you might otherwise pay when holding multiple accounts with multiple providers.
- If you are an existing PEP and ISA investor – speak to your adviser to find out if your investments will be consolidated into one account.

Important Information
Typically, most investments unless otherwise specified, are intended to be held for the medium to long term (5 years and longer) and you should be aware that the value of investments and any income from them can fall as well as rise. Returns are not guaranteed and you may not get back what you originally invested. Not all types of investments are appropriate for everyone and we recommend that you always seek guidance from your own tax adviser about the tax implications that could arise based on your personal circumstances.
With Barclays Financial planning you get:
- Maximise your tax efficient investments and invest up to £7,200 tax free.
